Adrian Cunningham is a New York based, full-time professional flutist, and woodwind specialist.  Originally from Australia, he graduated from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, with an Honors degree in Jazz Performance. Adrian has been living and working in NYC since 2008, and has studied and worked with some of the best musicians alive today. Mr. Cunningham is a  successful recording artist and bandleader, having recorded in many styles of jazz flute. Adrian has over 20 years experience teaching students ranging from primary school to university level.

When Adrian isn't gracing the stages at notable venues such as Carnegie Hall, Dizzy's @The LIncoln Center, Mezzrow, or other notable venue's around NYC and the USA, he can be seen touring internationally at various festivals as a soloist, or with his band "Professor Cunningham and his Old School".

Adrian has studied with some of the greatest living jazz musicians, and is excited to pass on his acquired knowledge from these masters, plus share his own performing experience, and give it right back to you, on JazzFluteAcademy.

Mr. Cunningham is confident in saying that he is one of the very few flute players in the current jazz world that can convincingly traverse jazz styles. From early/traditional jazz, to swing, to contemporary approaches to jazz styles and improvisation, Adrian Cunningham is a master, and we are thrilled to have him at JazzFluteAcademy.

While addressing technical aspects of the flute, the lessons created by Adrian do not address the “classical” approach for two main reasons. First, jazz is his passion, and Adrian truly believes you can develop amazing technique within the jazz idiom, with the same discipline applied to classical playing. Secondly, there’s already a lot of instructional information out there in terms of classical approaches, but not so in the jazz idiom!

Adrian's lessons are designed to hone-in on your technique in a creative and fun way, whilst deepening your

knowledge of jazz and developing improvisational skills.
